Best time to get married in Tuscany by Season

Getting Married in Tuscany: What to Expect in Every Season, Month by Month

When couples first start planning a destination wedding, one of the first questions we hear is: when is the best time to get married in Tuscany?

The answer is not as simple as choosing the month with the most sunshine. The season you choose will influence the light, the landscape, the atmosphere and the way your guests experience Tuscany. It will also shape how we approach the design and production of your celebration.

Summer is often the season couples picture first: long evenings, golden hills and outdoor dinners under the stars. But there is no single perfect month for a destination wedding in Tuscany. Every season has something special to offer, along with its own considerations. Spring brings fresh landscapes, autumn offers a richer palette, and winter reveals a quieter, more intimate side of Tuscany.

The key is finding the season that best suits the experience you want to create.

Here is what to expect, month by month.

March, April and May: Spring in Tuscany

Spring in Tuscany is green before it is golden. The hills of the Val d’Orcia fill with fresh colour, wildflowers appear across the countryside, and temperatures remain mild as the days grow longer.

  • March marks the beginning of spring, but it is still very much a month of transition. Temperatures and rainfall can be unpredictable, but historic villas, palaces and estates with beautiful interiors allow you to enjoy the Tuscan setting without depending entirely on the weather. For couples who love the idea of an intimate celebration and are less attached to a completely outdoor wedding, March can be an interesting choice.
  • April feels unmistakably more like spring. The countryside becomes greener, flowers begin to bloom and the days grow longer. However, rain and sudden changes in temperature are still possible, making flexibility an important part of the planning process. Outdoor ceremonies are a lovely choice, but a lunch reception can be preferable to an evening celebration, allowing guests to enjoy the milder daytime temperatures. Evenings can still be chilly, so it is worth keeping this in mind when planning the timeline.
  • May is one of the most desirable months for a destination wedding in Tuscany. Temperatures are generally comfortable, and the longer days make outdoor ceremonies and garden cocktails particularly appealing. In the first half of the month, evenings can still be cool, so an outdoor dinner may require heaters or need to be moved indoors, depending on the temperatures. By the second half of May, dining under the open sky becomes much more feasible. For couples dreaming of an outdoor celebration, May offers beautiful conditions, but it is also a popular month for destination weddings, so availability should be considered early.

Spring brings fresh landscapes and soft palettes that work beautifully for outdoor celebrations. The main consideration is the weather: rather than treating an indoor alternative as a backup, we recommend choosing a venue that works beautifully both indoors and outdoors. That way, the celebration can retain its atmosphere whatever the day brings.

June, July and August: Long Evenings and the Tuscan Summer

Summer is the season of golden hills, warm evenings and celebrations that unfold outdoors long after sunset.

  • June is one of our favourite months for a Tuscan destination wedding. The countryside is still vibrant, and summer has arrived without the intense heat of July and August. The days are long, giving the celebration room to unfold naturally: a late-afternoon ceremony, sunset cocktails and dinner under the stars. It is a wonderful choice for couples who want the classic outdoor Tuscan experience, although demand is high and the most sought-after venues and suppliers are often booked more than a year in advance. Even in June, shade, hydration and comfortable seating should be part of the plan.
  • July and August are unmistakably summer. The countryside takes on its characteristic golden tones and outdoor celebrations are at their most tempting. These months are ideal for couples who want their wedding weekend to feel like a holiday, with pool parties, garden cocktails and dinners outside that continue late into the evening.

Still, temperatures regularly exceed 30°C: the key is to plan around the heat rather than fight it. Ceremonies can take place later in the afternoon, cocktails can be arranged in shaded areas, and dinner can begin as temperatures start to drop.

Summer is the season for long evenings and celebrations that unfold outdoors. With a carefully planned timeline and the right attention to guest comfort, it can offer the classic Tuscan wedding experience many couples dream of.

September and October: Harvest Season and Autumn Colours

Harvest season brings a different kind of beauty to Tuscany, with softer light, richer colours and a landscape slowly transitioning into autumn.

  • September is one of the most popular months for destination weddings in Tuscany, both among international couples and Italians, and it is easy to understand why. The atmosphere still feels like summer, but with a softer edge. Days can remain warm, evenings are still pleasant for outdoor celebrations, and the countryside begins to take on more muted, earthy tones. It is also the beginning of the harvest season, making it a particularly appealing choice for couples drawn to wine estates and the hills of Chianti. However, demand remains high, so the best venues and suppliers should be secured well in advance.
  • October is when autumn truly begins to reveal itself. The light becomes softer, the landscape takes on warmer shades, and seasonal details can inspire everything from the menu to the overall design. Temperatures are often comfortable during the day, but rain becomes more likely and evenings can be chilly.

If you are looking for the classic Tuscan outdoor wedding experience without the peak summer heat, late September and early October can be an excellent choice. As the season progresses, however, flexibility becomes increasingly important. A venue with inviting indoor spaces means you can embrace the autumn atmosphere without relying entirely on the weather.

September and October are particularly suited to couples who love vineyard landscapes, seasonal food and thoughtful design. September often retains the feeling of summer, while October lends itself to richer colours, layered textures and a more intimate atmosphere.

November, December, January, February: The Quiet Months

  • November, December, January and February are less conventional choices for a wedding in Tuscany, but they are often underestimated. Cooler temperatures and a greater chance of rain make them less suited to a traditional countryside wedding centred around outdoor celebrations. For couples dreaming of a city wedding in Florence, however, winter can be a wonderful alternative.

Especially from late November through January, the city takes on a festive atmosphere, with Christmas lights, seasonal decorations and historic streets that feel especially enchanting. Renaissance palaces and historic venues become the main stage, with elegant interiors, candlelight and rich textures creating an intimate and atmospheric celebration.

Winter may not offer the classic image of a Tuscan wedding among sunlit hills and vineyards, but it opens the door to a different experience: a celebration that embraces Florence’s architecture, history and winter charm.

If you are considering this kind of celebration, we have written more about why we love a winter wedding in Florence and how to spend a winter wedding weekend in the city.

So, What Is the Best Month to Get Married in Tuscany?

There is no single answer. It depends on the kind of celebration you imagine and what matters most to you.

Before choosing a date, think about the experience you want to offer your guests: a long weekend in the countryside, a dinner among the vineyards during harvest season, or an intimate celebration in a Florentine palazzo. Every season brings something different to Tuscany. The right one is the one that fits your vision, your guests and the kind of celebration you want to create.

Every season can work. What matters is knowing what it brings, and planning for it from the beginning.
